Alternate Title: Breakfast Rum, the most important rum of the day!!

A few years ago, we met a group of rum lovers at a rum tasting at Mistral Bistro in Punda (a great experience, by the way), and became friends with one of them. Some time later, we bumped into the same man, Stuart, again at Mistral, for the big release party of AnnaBay Club Rum. It turns out he is one of the co-founders of the company. While I may not have the most developed palate around, I know a good rum when I taste it, and this was a REALLLLLY good rum!!

On our last trip to Curaçao, we made sure to book a tasting with Christian, another co-founder of AnnaBay Club Rum, at their beautiful store in Punda. Monday at 10am arrived, (forever to be known as “The Rumming Hour”) and we were more than excited to commence the tasting and learn about this authentic Curaçao company. Without giving away to many of the wonderful highlights of this tour, here is what we learned:

The Building:

The location of AnnaBay Rum Club’s Punda store has a great significance all on its own. The architecture, ambience and history of the building is unique and very, very interesting. We learned some very cool facts about the past and present of the building and the company, and also took some great pictures!!

The Host:

Anyone can give a tour or read a set of facts or stories. But, when you get a tour like we did, from someone who has such an obvious passion for what he is doing, it really makes for a special time. Obviously, Christian’s knowledge of rum, how it is made, and the history of AnnaBay Club Rum specifically is vast, detailed, and interesting, but the stories he told us of the origins of the company, the recipe and the process were way beyond our expectations (also, my wife said he’s cute!). Christian made the experience very, very special. I watched the other staff guide people through the store, and it was very apparent that they were emulating Christian’s professionalism and passion. This was more than a rum tasting, it was a history lesson, too.

The Best Part…THE RUM!!!

I love a good rum…always have. AnnaBay Club Rum is a very, very, very good rum!! There were rums of various ages, and even some fun “flavored” rums. There were rums for everyone’s tastes, and literally all of them were delicious!! (yes we tasted all of them…even a special one we didn’t think we’d get to try!!).

All I can say is, if you like rum, history, and then more rum, you absolutely HAVE to go to AnnaBay Club Rum in Punda, book a tasting, buy some rum, drink some rum, buy more rum…well…you get the idea!!!
