Exchanging a Canadian Driver’s License for a Local Driver’s License

One of our very valuable members was gracious to research and compose this info. Big thanks to JSG for putting in the work and granting permission to post.

Hello everyone! Many people have questions about the process of getting a local driver’s license. After living here for 7 years, I finally decided to apply for my local license, and here’s the process for those who are interested:

Here’s what you need:

  • A copy of your driving record in ENGLISH. It’s free, and I received it quickly by mail while I was in Quebec.
  • Your Sedula.
  • You need to go to the post office to get the “Geneeskundige Verklaring” form with an apostille, which costs 20 NAF. Then you need to have this form completed by your doctor in Curaçao. When I went to see my doctor, I had to pay a consultation fee of 75 NAF, which will be reimbursed by my insurance.

Once you have all these documents, you need to go to the following website to make an appointment under the “foreign driver’s license exchange” section: https://loketdigital.gobiernu.cw/(Exchange Driver’s License (Foreign Non-Expired – Geneva Convention Members).

Once at Kranshi, I filled out another form related to the Geneva Convention “Verdrag van Geneve,” and the lady took photocopies of my other documents and told me she would call me once my file was created. She didn’t say how long it would take, but it usually takes around 10 days.

When I receive the call, I’ll need to return to Kranshi, take a photo, and pay the 175 NAF fee to get my local driver’s license!

There you go! 🙂 I hope this information helps you!
