Curaçao is famous for its amazing snorkeling and diving, but with more than 50 beaches, it tough to decide where to go. One of the most commonly asked questions is “what’s the best beach for snorkeling?”
We can’t answer that, but I can narrow it down!! Here’s our top 10.
Note: Every one of these spots has amazing snorkeling/diving right from shore; no need to take a boat out. This is one of the greatest things about Curaçao. Also, scuba is not necessary to see amazing reefs and an incredible array of beautiful sea life.
- Tugboat Beach/Directeurs Baai; This is my favorite spot. It boasts three unique experiences in one spot. First, there is obviously the sunken boat. There are literally thousands of fish of all varieties around the boat. Next, if you continue past the boat, there is a beautiful sea wall and reef that extends all the way to Directeurs Baai. Third, there is the pier. The vertical pillars supporting the pier create very unique lighting, and the coral growing vertically is out of this world.
- Grote Knip; Classic Westpunt experience; great reef, tons of fish, easy swim
- Playa Kalki; This is my favorite snorkel/dive spot in Westpunt. The reef is simply incredible and full of color and diversity.
- Klein Knip; Great spot. Similar to Grote Knip, but Klein-er.
- Playa Cas Abao; Great Reefs on either side of the beach. There is usually a guy there with a zodiac that will take you to some nice spots for a fee as well.
- Daaibooi Beach; Surprisingly good spot, as it can be quite wavy there, but the visibility along the cliffs is still very good. Nice reefs, lots of fish.
- Playa Lagun; This place is very special. Not only is it a great spot with tons of fish and often turtles along the cliff sides, but because it is so sheltered, it is an excellent spot for beginners and people who are not super strong swimmers.
- Playa Porto Mari; The reef along each side is quite nice, and there are lots of fish, but it can be quite busy. It’s a good spot though.
- Kokomo Beach; Quite a nice reef with some unique structures but can be very busy.
- Playa Santa Cruz; The reef outside the bay is very good and there are many fish, but it is a bit of a swim.
