- Housing: There are houses at almost any price point…this depends on you. Neighborhood, amenities, etc can impact this greatly. In general, you will be able to fulfill your housing needs at a price that fits your budget, but you may have to hunt in some areas that are new to you.
- Gas: more expensive than North America, price fixed monthly
- Alcohol (check the Beer/Booze page for details): In general, alcohol is more expensive than Canada.
Pro Tip: staying drunk at home will save you $$$ overall by not buying gas for the car!!
- Groceries: some stuff is more expensive than home, other stuff is less…depending on your habits, it shouldn’t be more than home. (Check the “Grocery Shopping in Curacao” page for more details).
- Restaurants: a very wide variety of price ranges. There are fancy places priced similarly to home, but there are also many, many great local places that are very reasonable.
- Water and electricity: these are the killers. You have to watch your habits or staying cool can bankrupt you. (Refer to the Blog post, Utilities in Curaçao…Ouch, for a detailed cost comparison.)
For me, I know that we can live cheaper overall in Curaçao than at home, but we will certainly have to adapt a few habits.
